3-D density structure of the upper-mantle in the eastern Mediterranean Sea and surrounding region using gravity inversion constrained by seismic velocity model

A 3D density structure of the lithosphere and upper mantle beneath eastern Mediterranean Sea (EMS) its adjacent region was constructed based on gravity anomaly inversion constrained by a seismic tomography model. Gravity effects terrain crust were removed from observed field (EIGEN-6C4) to obtain residual (RMGA). The distribution investigated. process an initial model projected shear-wave velocity (SL2013sv). results show some characteristics in that could be related tectonic importance surrounding region. low-density zone dominates except for area around Arabia Shield North Anatolian Fault belt. thinner, high-density layer southwest may older oceanic lithospheric fragments. anomalies appear at depths below 280 km Turkish Aegean Plate. However, under trenches southwestern part Sea, Red Black middle shield. deep Eratosthenes seamount is source intensity genesis activity. Furthermore, convergence two zones (Africa-Anatolia) interpreted as significant unit (Eratosthenes seamount) caused arrival relatively thick buoyant block present location south Cyprus Holocene time interpretation during Late Cretaceous early Tertiary period.
